Welcome to the luteal phase — that stretch of your cycle where everything feels louder, hungrier, and a little more honest.
Instead of fighting the cravings, we're feeding them properly. These brownies, dreamed up by women's hormone and fertility practitioner Erika Hudacova, are packed with magnesium-rich cacao, complex carbs from sweet potato and oats, and exactly zero apologies.
Bake a batch, slice them thick, and remember: working with your body always tastes better than working against it.
RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- 1 medium sweet potato, cooked and peeled
- 6 tbsp oat flour
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup of honey or ½ coconut sugar
- 3 tbsp cacao powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
- 50 grams g 100% dark chocolate, roughly chopped
STEPS
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a square baking tin with parchment paper and coat with coconut oil or olive oil.
- Make the batter: Add the cooked sweet potato into a bowl and mash it. Then add eggs, and coconut sugar (or honey). Mix until completely smooth.
- Mix in dry ingredients: Add the ground oats, cacao powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Blend or stir until a thicker batter forms.
- Fold in chocolate: Fold in most of the chopped dark chocolate, saving a small handful to scatter on top.
- Bake: Pour the batter into your prepared tin and spread evenly. Scatter the remaining chocolate pieces on top. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the edges are set and a skewer comes out mostly clean. If you want a fudgier consistency take it out when it still looks slightly undone
- Cool and slice: Allow to cool completely in the tin before slicing - this helps them firm up. Cut into squares and enjoy with peanut butter on top!
NOTES
These brownies are naturally gluten-free if your oats are certified GF. The sweet potato adds natural sweetness and fibre, so feel free to adjust the coconut sugar to taste.
